THE HEMINGWAY BUILDING
Originally constructed in 1865, the Hemingway Building underwent a significant transformation in 1915 when it was remodeled to serve as Kansas City Police Station No. 4. The first floor was home to the police station and a jail. The second floor held the Municipal Court, as well as offices for the judge and clerk. In 1917, Ernest Hemingway began his career at the Kansas City Star, and it is here that the legend begins. Sitting through court cases on the second floor, Hemingway and his fellow crime beat reporters would retire to an adjacent office to write the stories they submitted to the Star.
Today, the building is home to an event space and commercial photo and motion graphics studio.
